Knitted Storage Baskets 101
Dimensions:
You’ll end up with two charming baskets:
1. An oblong one measuring 14 x 26 x 10 cm.
2. A cute square fella of 11.5 x 11.5 x 5 cm.
What’s in the Bag?
– Three balls of pure, natural cotton (like the lovely Roc Cotons Nature 100% organic cotton 50g/90m depicted in our photo).
– A pair of 3.25mm knitting needles.
Knitting Specs:
Achieving 24 sts x 36 rows in our basket stitch pattern with 3.25 mm needles? Congrats! You’ve got a 10cm square! To ensure your basket’s sturdiness, we’re going with a needle size slightly smaller than usual. Trust me on this one; it’ll make the box super firm.
Let’s Get Those Needles Clicking!
Oblong Basket:
– Start off with two side panels. Cast on 63 sts with your 3.25 mm needles.
– Follow this basket stitch pattern:
– Row 1 (rs): k3 *p3, k3, repeat till the end.
– Row 2: p3, *k3, p3, repeat till the end.
– Row 3 and 4: As per rows 1 and 2.
– Row 5: p3, *k3, p3, repeat till the end.
– Row 6: k3, *p3, k3, repeat till the end.
– Row 7 and 8: As per rows 5 and 6.
– Repeat the 8-row pattern two more times, then rows 1 to 7 once.
– K4 rows and cast off.
Complete two end panels and the base in the same pattern.
Finally, assemble and seam it all together!
Square Basket:
– Whip up 4 side panels. Cast on 27 sts.
– Stick to the same pattern as above, and after finishing the pattern, k 4 rows and then cast off.
– The base follows the same groove but starts with 25 sts.
Seam the sides and attach the base, and you’ve got a snazzy square basket!
