Knit Your Way to Adorable Chick Egg Cozies
Hosting soon or looking for a fun, seasonal décor for Easter? Chick egg cozies are a delightful addition to any breakfast table! Now, if you’re all ears, let’s get into the fun part of crafting these lil’ chickies!
What You’ll Need:
- Gold DK yarn (1 ball is enough for each cozy)
- 2.75mm double-pointed needles (DPNs)
Tension: Aim for 20 sts and 50 rows to make a 10x10cm (4x4in) piece with garter st using 2.75mm needles. And for the curious minds, the height of our cozy chick is 6cm (2½ inches)!

Time to Shape the Chick:
WINGS (Craft Two of These!)
- Start by casting on 8 sts with your 2.75mm DPNs. Knit away for 13 rows.
- Once done, cast off and there you have it!
BEAK (The Cutest Part!)
- Use orange DK wool and cast on 2 sts with 2.75mm DPNs.
- Row 1: Kfb, K1. (Total of 3 sts)
- Row 2: Purl, then proceed to Row 3: Kfb twice, K1. (Now you have 5 sts!)
- For the next steps, purl 3 rows. Then, Row 7: K1, sl1, k2tog, psso, K1 (Back to 3 sts!).
- Row 8 is a purl row. Finally, in Row 9: Sl1, k2tog, psso and cap it off.
BODY (Where the Magic Happens!)
- Using your gold yarn, cast on 24 sts with your 2.75mm DPNs.
- Join them into a round without twisting the stitches. Here’s the sequence: Rounds 1 and 2: *K1, P1; go from start to finish of the round. Then, Round 3 is all about purling, and Round 4 is a knit fest!
- Redo Rounds 3 and 4 for eight more times and then just do Round 3 once more.
- For Round 22: *K2tog, K4; repeat until the end. The subsequent rounds will see decreases, with Rounds 23, 25, and 27 being all purls. The final round (Round 28) has you doing *K2tog till you end up with just 6 sts.
- Wrap it up with a B&T.
FINISHING TOUCHES
- Begin by cleaning up the cast-on and cast-off sections of the Body.
- For the Beak, tidy up the ends and fold it to form two mini triangles. Attach this to the Body, specifically 15 rounds up from the ribbing.
- Add some flair with two black sequins as eyes above the Beak using black thread.
- Lastly, attach each wing on either side of the body, making sure to secure the edges at the back to keep the wings in place.
